The revision (TR16-84) addresses a modification to the existing approved mining and reclamation plans to include a passive water treatment system to treat mine water in order to meet applicable water quality effluent limitations. The proposed treatment system will utilize a series of four treatment cells with both open-water ponded areas and constructed wetlands to reduce iron, sulfates, and dissolved solids in the mine water prior to discharge to Fish Creek. The combination of open-water (aerobic) and wetland (anerobic) will maximize naturally-occurring physical, chemical, and biological treatment mechanism and processes. The mine permit area encompasses approximately 22,607 acres, located approximately 23 miles southwest of Steamboat Springs on Routt County Road 33, and approximately 7.3 miles northwest of Oak Creek on Routt County Road 27. Mine offices and major surface facilities are located adjacent to Foidel Creek, near the intersection of these two roads.
